After neglecting my outdoor deck chairs for too long, I finally decided to tackle the mold and mildew that had built up on them over time. My deck doesn’t get much sunshine, so mold easily accumulates on the fabric of the chairs.

Determined to clean them up, I gathered an old shower scrub brush and a few other supplies. To my surprise, the task turned out to be much easier than I expected, even though I didn’t have a dedicated mold and mildew cleaner. Instead, I improvised with Method shower soap spray, a bucket of water mixed with OxiClean, and that trusty old scrub brush.

To clean mold and mildew off my chairs, I used Method shower soap and an old shower scrub brush.

Despite my initial worries, the chairs cleaned up nicely with this simple approach. I really should invest in a proper mold and mildew cleaner and blocker for next time, but for now, I’m thrilled with the results!

Here’s what I did:

  1. Gathered my supplies: a scrub brush, mold and mildew cleaning spray, and a bucket of water mixed with OxiClean.
  2. Sprayed the outdoor furniture chair fabric with the cleaning solution and scrubbed it with the brush until the mold was removed.
  3. Rinsed the chairs with water to remove the moldy soap suds and let them dry off.

That’s it! It took me less than half an hour to clean all four of the moldy chairs on my deck. If I were to do this again, I would definitely get a bottle of Mold Armor. Whatever cleaning solution you use, just make sure it doesn’t contain bleach or any chemicals that could damage or discolor your furniture.

Another option is to use Wet and Forget. While it takes longer to see results since it requires no scrubbing, it works effectively over a period of weeks.
